The George Washington Bridge (known informally as the GW Bridge, the GWB, the GW, or the George) is a suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, connecting the Washington Heights neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City to Fort Lee in New Jersey. Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1/9 cross the river via the bridge. U.S. Route 46, which is entirely in New Jersey, ends halfway across the bridge at the state border.

through it, and a yellow spot below it. These birds have black legs, long tails, pale wing bars, and thin pointed bills. Coloring is duller in female and immatures.

El carpintero de La Española (Melanerpes striatus) es un miembro antillano del género Melanerpes endémico de la isla de La Española, que sólo se encuentra en los bosques de

Haití y la República Dominicana.
Se distingue por su vistoso plumaje de estrías negras y amarillas y su cabeza coronada en rojo completo, en los machos, y en el rojo y negro de las hembras. Muy útil pues se

alimenta de gusanos e insectos que constituyen plagas.

The Hispaniolan Woodpecker (Melanerpes striatus) is a medium-sized woodpecker endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola.
Their back is covered in yellow and black stripes. Males have a dark red stripe from their forehead to their neck while females the red stripe extends from the nape to the

neck only. Their tail base is brilliantly red while the tail itself is black. The rump is olive-grey.
Unlike most woodpeckers, the Hispaniolan Woodpecker is a social species that takes advantage of having a large number of individual adult birds in the colony to protect a

nesting bank or tree.
Their habitat, which is restricted to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, extends from the coasts, over the deserts to the mountains of the island.
